To The Demon Hunter Fans

Some of you may have heard that I, along with Don Clark, have decided to step down from Demon Hunter.  This decision, in no way, came easy.  When I joined Relient K in March of 2008, I knew that there might come a time when I would have to do this.  At that point I did everything possible to be involved in both bands.  The tough part was that Relient K was so full time, I had to back out of certain shows and events with DH.  Missing some shows here and there seemed ok at first, but after a while, I felt like my time with DH was growing shorter.  A couple months ago, I was supposed to meet up with Ryan and Patrick in Philly for a rare acoustic performance.  At the last minuet, I had to cancel.  I felt terrible about having to do this and at that point, I knew it was time to figure some things out.  I talked with Ryan and our manager about the DH schedule for the rest of the 2009.  It turned out that there was nothing I could make it to…shows, photoshoots, recording…etc.  At that point, it was time to step down.  I had an amazing talk with Ryan about the whole situation and made it official with He and DH that my time was done with the band.

To my brothers in Demon Hunter, Ryan, Don, Jon & Yogi & our manager Downey…Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making the last 4 years completely unforgettable.  I am so proud to call you guys friends, proud to have been a part of this band, proud to have recorded The Tryptich & Storm The Gates Of Hell, proud to have played all over the country with you guys, proud to be able to call Seattle a second home and most of all, I am so proud to have been a part of something that has brought so much joy and hope to so many people.  Hearing story after story from fans is what made me want to make my time both bands work and not want to ever step down.  Thank you for everything!

To the fans…You guys are the reason this band exists, the reason they write, record, tour…etc.  Thank you for embracing me in this band for the last 4 years.  Every one of you has had an impact on my life as much as you have told us the same.  I loved going on the road with DH and being able to interact  with all of you.  That was one of the best things to look forward to when touring.  Please keep supporting DH because regardless of Don and I leaving, the focus and heart of the band stays the same and that it what makes Demon Hunter what it is.  If you get the chance, please come out to a Relient K show and say hello.  I know a number of you have done so already and it means the world to me!  Keep it up!  Please support Patrick taking my spot.  He is an AMAZING guitarist and, as some of you have seen, he fits the band perfectly!  I can’t wait to be in the crowd with you guys the next time DH plays Nashville.

Obviously, this does not mean I will never see or talk to these guy again…far form it!  When RK goes to Seattle, the first thing I do is hit up those dudes.  I’m sure Ryan and I will work on album packaging in the future with my photography.  Either way, these guys will be in my life for a long time to come!  So, thanks again to everyone involved in DH for making the last 4 years of my life something I will never forget!!  I will wear my DH tattoo with pride, knowing that it stands for much more than a band I played in.  Thank you.

Tout comme Ethan qui a posté un communiquer sur son site ! Don a posté un message sur le blog d'Invisible Creature (logique) !

Even though we do a pretty good job of keeping IC and the band separate, the truth of the matter is that both do blend as one sometimes - and as many of you already know, after 8+ years I’ve decided to step down from my duties as Ryan’s wingman in Demon Hunter.

The idea for the band was born amidst a casual conversation in a dark parking lot in Seattle back in 2001. Ryan and I were talking about what we’d like to do next in music and the idea of DH was hatched. Never in a million years did we think the band would reach the heights that it has.

I’ll miss many aspects of playing with DH: The fans (you guys were and still are the life-blood of this band), my brother Ryan (now I’m DH’s biggest fan), my bro’s in the band (Jon, Yogi, Ethan & Patrick), Ryan Downey (DH’s 2nd biggest fan and hardest working manager in the business), and of course my family for the years of support while touring, making records, etc.

I’m proud of every album we made, but “45 Days” stands out the most to me in regards to what this band was (and is) all about.

Along with myself, Ethan Luck has also stepped down from the band due to his full-time gig with Relient K. Ethan is a great friend and has some thoughts about his departure over at his blog. Above is a picture of us at the ‘Fading Away’ video shoot in 2006 at the Universal Studios lot in California.

Thanks to you all …

I think I’ll be OK, this other job seems to be working out …

-Don

What a bummer dude. I’ve loved every album you guys put out. “Summer of Darkness” got me through my wife being in ICU and almost dying. Thank God she didn’t. But that disc was in my player constantly. I hope you keep your feet wet in the music. Look forward to what comes out of this silly little side job you have at IC, as well as what DH keeps on doing.

So is this so you can focus on IC more? I know you guys are hugely successful so I hope that means you have TOO MUCH work and need to focus on it. GOOD PROBLEM!
Man I’ll miss you in DH. Never thought you’d leave your brother in DH. You were the last one I thought would ever leave…ok, Ryan too, but you guys just went together in the band, so I never thought either of you would leave.
Good luck and thanks for all you’ve done in DH. Brought me back to the metal scene. Metal that a minister can listen to and not have ANYTHING to worry about defending.

I remember as a young 20 year old siting upstairs in a little desk at Tooth and Nail learning what it was to be a designer. I believe my first day was a week after the first DH photo shoot happened in those dark woods of Seattle. A short time pasted when I returned to that same chair for the second major photo shoot and for weeks, scanned every Summer of Darkness photo. For 8+ years DH has been ingrained in my design career as much or more, oddly enough, as IC. Congrats for making it this long and I look forward to your next parking lot inspired musical endeavor.

Don. I don’t know what to say. I first heard Demon Hunter in April of this year. Heartstrings. Then Not Ready To Die. Then I bought 45 days. A week later The tryptych SE. within a month i had Storm. and then i bought the tryptych SE and 45 days again with the deluxe edition of storm. Then Summer of Darkness and Demon Hunter self titled. I can’t explain how much Demon Hunter means to me. I have dubbed this summer my own Summer of Darkness. I am working through my childhood issues that i have with my stepmom and what your music has done is help me focus on other things. it has given me a new bold stance in my faith. At the same time that i am “Not Ready To Die”, I am also not AFRAID to die thanks to songs like Carry Me Down. My daughter is 10 months…I play that song for her and she goes to sleep, stops crying, but everytime her face lights up and she smiles. ironically she may be the one to carry me down. Thank you for your faithfulness. As i mentioned i became a “not ready to die-hard” fan within two months. I own everything you’ve put out. I have ready every interview i can find. I pray blessing beyond your capacity to fathom. And that Demon Hunter will be around when my son and daughter are teenagers….thank you and if you can respond….cool God Bless!

My hands are quivering… hard to believe hits.

That was so sad to read. But I believe that you made a right decision! Everyone needs to sometimes think their life and what they want about it. God knows your decisions and blesses you in your all ways! And He has already blessed you in a great way!

I have to say Don, that you and Ethan, you are my number one role models in guitar playing and you both have influenced me in a great way!! I love your guitar playing style and through your guitar playing God has blessed my life so much!

I have played both DH’s live DVD performances several times through and every time I am amazed about your skills.

I’ll continue my praying for you, Ethan, rest of DH and IC.

God bless!
