Romans 4:13 (KJV) - For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

Abraham stands as a primary example of the gospel. Abraham did not receive God’s favor because of his looks or abilities. It was simply that when God made a promise Abraham believed it, even when that promise was so huge Abraham couldn’t comprehend it. Though this promise wasn’t realized until much later, Abraham still lived his life in line with the promises of God. This is what made Abraham righteous. Not his actions, but the deep trust that guided all of those actions toward God.
